FOREIGN STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

As a Foreign Student it is possible for you to go through pilot training, however, because you are not a U.S. citizen, there are several things that must be accomplished first.  These are requirements that must be met by all pilot training facilities, not just McClelland.  The first of which is for you to call us at (217) 544-9027.  We will need to discuss the details of the training you want, including when you would like to start.

After we have spoken you will need to submit your request for training to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  This will need to be done electronically on their Web Site at www.flightschoolcandidates.gov.  You will need a User ID and Password to access this site.  On the bottom of the login page there is a hyperlink (new account), which you will need to use in order to get a User ID and Password.  The information you will need to submit to the TSA includes the following:

  1. Request for training
    1. Name and location of training provider
    2. Details of the type of training
    3. Dates when the training will occur
    4. Etc.
  1. Personal information
    1. Full name including any aliases or variations in the spelling
    2. Unique student ID number (this will be provided by the TSA when the application is completed)
    3. Legible copy of your current, unexpired passport and visa
    4. Passport and visa information, including all current and previous passports and visas
    5. Current and previous countries of citizenship
    6. Actual date of birth
    7. U.S. pilot’s certificate number and type rating, if any
    8. Current address and telephone number, as well as each address for the 5 years prior to the date of application
    9. Gender

Once this is done, the TSA will contact us to confirm what is on your application.  They will contact you via e-mail requesting you to pay the TSA a $130 USD processing fee.  After the TSA has received this payment, they will again contact you via e-mail with instructions on how you are to submit fingerprints to them.  Finally, the TSA will contact both you and us to let us know when you have met the requirements to begin flight training.  When you show up here the first time to start training, we will take your picture and submit that to the TSA, as well.

Again, the first thing that needs to be done is for you to contact McClelland Aviation by phone (217) 544-9027 to discuss the details of the training you are seeking.  At that time, please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the application process or the flight training itself.
