PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATEFederal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 141GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1) Be at least 17 years of age to acquire a license, 16 to solo 2) Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language 3) Obtain at least a current third-class medical certificate 4) Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test
FLIGHT REQUIREMENTS UNDER FAR PART 141 FOR McCLELLAND AVIATION Minimum of 38 hours of flight, which must include the following: 1) Minimum of 21 hours flight instruction, which includes: à 7 hours cross country à 3 hours instrument flight training à 3 hours night flying to include: à One cross country at least 100nm total distance à 10 takeoff and landings 2) Minimum of 17 hours solo flight, which include: à 6 hours solo cross country à One solo cross country that is at least 150nm total distance, with landings at three points and with one segment at least 50nm between two locations à Three takeoff and landings at an airport with an operating control tower Minimum 34 hours ground instruction.Note: Hours above are the minimum set by the Federal Aviation Administration for the Part 141 Private Pilot Course at McClelland Aviation. Most pilots will require more time to be prepared for the practical test. |
